The development also saw the reported defection of Mrs Ebunlola Abolarin, identified as the Women Leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to the APC. The defections were announced during an empowerment programme organised by the Executive Chairman of Ijumu Local Government Area, Alhaji Ibrahim Haruna, in Ogidi, his hometown.

The new members reportedly expressed their willingness to join the APC and participate in its activities at the community level, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Receiving the defectors, an APC zonal chairman, identified in the reports as Hon. Ayo Emmanuel, welcomed them and assured them that the party would provide an inclusive environment for both new and existing members.

He urged the defectors to demonstrate commitment to the party, work alongside established members and contribute to strengthening the APC’s presence across the area.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Abolarin reportedly pledged their loyalty to the party and promised that they would participate actively in its political activities.

The development comes as political parties and their supporters begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 elections. Defections at the grassroots level are often presented by political parties as signs of growing support, although the actual electoral impact will depend on how that support translates into votes.
