Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has opened up about relationships, attraction and the importance of honesty when romantic feelings begin to change.

The singer, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, shared her thoughts while responding to a relationship question on her Ask Ayra Starr segment.

The discussion centred on a situation that can create difficult choices in a relationship — what someone should do if they are already committed to a partner but suddenly find another person more attractive.

Ayra Starr’s response was straightforward. She explained that if she were in a serious relationship and became attracted to another man, she would rather end her existing relationship than attempt to maintain two romantic relationships at the same time.

For the singer, honesty would be preferable to secretly pursuing another person while remaining committed to a partner.

Her comments also touched on the importance of friendships outside romantic relationships.

Ayra Starr advised people not to abandon their friends simply because they have entered a relationship. She suggested that romantic partners should allow each other to maintain meaningful friendships instead of creating an environment where one person becomes completely isolated from their social circle.

The singer’s comments come months after she also spoke about what attracts her to a potential partner. In an April 2026 interview, Ayra said physical appearance is not the most important quality she looks for, explaining that she is more interested in intelligence, motivation and emotional intelligence.

Ayra has generally kept details of her private relationships away from the public eye, although she has occasionally spoken about her experiences and views on love.

In March 2026, she discussed a past relationship she described as a private and unhealthy situationship, saying her friends had encouraged her to leave but she struggled to let go because of the emotional connection involved.

Beyond her personal views, Ayra Starr continues to make major strides in her music career. Her 2024 album, The Year I Turned 21, has continued to attract significant streaming numbers, with current tracking data putting the project at more than 1.4 billion Spotify streams.

The singer has since released her third studio album, Starrgirl, further expanding her growing catalogue and international profile.
