The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, identified as Sunday Nimel, over alleged involvement in armed robbery incidents in Asaba and its surrounding communities.
According to a statement attributed to the command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the arrest took place on October 7, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. The operation was carried out by operatives of the Commissioner of Police’s Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, working with local vigilantes following intelligence about suspected criminal activity.
Police said Nimel was suspected of belonging to a robbery syndicate allegedly responsible for several residential robberies in the area. The allegations remain subject to investigation and have not been established in court.
The statement said information obtained during questioning led officers to a location near Okpanam City Gate, where additional items were recovered. The police reported recovering three firearms in total, alongside ammunition.
The command said the operation formed part of its efforts to investigate suspected criminal networks and respond to intelligence concerning violent crime in Delta State.
Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, reportedly commended the officers involved and reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and efforts to tackle criminal activity.
He also encouraged residents to provide credible information to law enforcement agencies, saying public cooperation could assist investigations and help protect lives and property.
The suspect’s arrest does not amount to a conviction. Further legal proceedings and the outcome of the investigation will determine whether formal charges are brought and whether the allegations can be proved.
