The publication, in a report dated October 11, 2026, said sources identified the former Director of Navy Accounts in a residential area of Kaduna, where properties previously linked to him were reportedly sealed by EFCC operatives.

The report also referenced a video said to show Yusuf beside a parked Mercedes-Benz vehicle. However, the circumstances surrounding the reported sighting, including allegations of an assault involving a resident, have not been independently verified.

Yusuf has been linked to a long-running EFCC investigation into alleged transfers of public funds while he served in the Nigerian Navy. The commission accused him of receiving money traced to official accounts through accounts associated with him and a business identified as Bitmas Enterprises.

According to earlier reports on the case, investigators alleged that funds were transferred from Nigerian Navy and Defence Intelligence Agency accounts into private and company accounts. The allegations included multiple naira transfers and a separate transaction involving $300,000 reportedly earmarked for furniture for Navy Secondary School in Okura.

The EFCC filed a nine-count charge against Yusuf in March 2022. In October of that year, the commission told a Federal High Court in Abuja that efforts to locate him had been unsuccessful and that he could not be brought before the court to answer the charges.

The case attracted further attention after a court ordered the permanent forfeiture of funds held in accounts linked to Yusuf in February 2020. The amounts reported at the time included ₦392.7 million, $91,955.38 and £15,050. The forfeiture proceedings were separate from the criminal charges and should not be treated as a final determination of every allegation in the later case.

The EFCC was also reported to have sealed properties associated with Yusuf, including Emerald Hotels and Suites, buildings in Kaduna and Zaria, and Bitmas Bakery Limited in Zaria.

Sahara Reporters had previously published reports alleging that Yusuf returned to Nigeria after leaving for Dubai and was subsequently seen moving between Abuja and Kaduna despite being wanted. The latest report has renewed questions about whether the authorities have been able to locate and bring him before the court.

The reported sighting has not, by itself, established the circumstances of Yusuf’s current legal status or whether any fresh action has been taken by the EFCC or other authorities.

The allegations against the retired officer remain subject to the relevant legal proceedings, and he is entitled to the presumption of innocence unless found guilty by a competent court.
