The officers reportedly searched the vehicle and discovered a bag containing the firearm and ammunition. One of the suspects, identified as Rufai Ahmed, 19, from Hotoro Quarters in Kano, was arrested at the scene, while the recovered items were taken as exhibits.
Police said further investigations, ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, led to the arrest of a second suspect, Aliyu Ibrahim, 19, of Kawo Quarters, Kano, over his alleged connection to the case.
The command said the investigation was part of ongoing efforts to recover illegal firearms and strengthen intelligence-led policing in the state, in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Bakori reportedly directed investigators to intensify their inquiries, adding that the suspects would be taken to court after the investigation.
The police commissioner also commended the officers involved in the operation, describing their vigilance as important to the command's efforts to tackle illegal arms possession and other criminal activities.
The command urged residents to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information that could assist in preventing crime and improving public safety.
The suspects' arrest does not establish guilt; the allegations remain subject to investigation and determination through the judicial process.
