The interception was carried out by officers attached to the Akpafa Division during a routine stop-and-search operation, according to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, on Thursday, October 15, 2026.

Police said the suspect was travelling from Edo State towards Abuja in a Honda vehicle when officers stopped it and discovered the suspected illicit substance.

According to the command, preliminary investigations suggested that the suspect was involved in the sale and distribution of the substance. Police further alleged that he told investigators that a supplier known by the alias “Biggy” provided the consignment in Edo State for delivery to buyers in Abuja.

The police said the recovered items were valued at approximately ₦3.2 million, based on information provided during the investigation.

Following the interception, the suspect and the recovered exhibits were transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and necessary action.

The command added that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the alleged supplier and other individuals connected to the consignment, including its intended recipients, as investigators work to establish the wider network behind the suspected trafficking operation.

Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, commended the officers involved in the operation and reiterated the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, routine stop-and-search operations and cooperation with relevant security agencies.

He also urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist law enforcement agencies in tackling criminal activities across the state.

The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the suspect have yet to be determined through the legal process.
