According to Adebisi, the officers were attached to the command’s Immortal Tactical Team operating in Ikorodu. They were subsequently summoned to the office of the Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, where the decision was taken to detain them pending disciplinary proceedings.
She confirmed that all four officers were in custody at the command headquarters for further questioning, although only three were present during the briefing to journalists.
The commissioner also ordered the disbandment of the entire tactical team as part of the command’s response to the incident.
The police said appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any personnel found responsible for misconduct after the investigation. The detention of the officers does not, however, amount to a final determination of their culpability.
Adebisi reiterated the command’s position that no officer would be shielded from accountability for violating police rules or abusing the authority attached to the uniform.
She also urged Lagos residents to report cases of police misconduct and other actions that contravene official directives, assuring the public that credible complaints would be taken seriously.
The spokesperson commended members of the community for assisting the police in identifying the officers shown in the video, noting that their cooperation helped the command act promptly.
The development comes amid continuing public concerns over allegations of harassment and abuse of authority by some police personnel. The command has maintained that officers are expected to carry out their duties with integrity, humility and respect for citizens’ rights.
Investigations and disciplinary proceedings against the four officers are ongoing, and the police have yet to announce their final findings on the incident.
