The corps members and another person who were reportedly taken during the incident regained their freedom on Wednesday, October 7, bringing relief to their families and authorities.
In a statement issued by the governor, Uzodimma praised the security agencies involved in the operation, describing their coordinated efforts as instrumental to the safe release of the victims.
He also acknowledged the cooperation between the Imo and Oyo State governments in efforts to resolve the situation.
According to the governor, authorities deliberately restricted information about the incident while the operation was ongoing because the priority was to protect the lives of those in captivity and ensure their safe return.
Uzodimma expressed appreciation to the parents and relatives of the abducted corps members for remaining patient and cooperative throughout the ordeal.
The governor further called on Nigerians to maintain confidence in the efforts of the Federal Government and security agencies as authorities continue working to tackle kidnapping and other security threats across the country.
The release of the prospective corps members comes amid continuing concerns over the safety of young Nigerians travelling to different parts of the country for the NYSC mobilisation programme.
Authorities are expected to continue monitoring security along major highways and other vulnerable routes to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
