He spoke with journalists in Abuja after the council’s inaugural meeting, explaining that the visits were intended to brief royal fathers on the party’s plans and seek their blessings.
According to reports, Yari recently led APC leaders to meetings with the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, and the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari. He also held consultations with prominent traditional rulers in northern Nigeria, including the emirs of Gwandu, Katsina, Daura and Zaria.
Yari said the campaign council considered the involvement of traditional rulers important to its efforts to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid. He stressed that the visits were part of an ongoing engagement with royal institutions rather than a one-off exercise.
The APC campaign chief also said the council had instructed its directorates to develop work plans outlining how they would carry out their respective responsibilities during the campaign.
He urged members of the council to work together despite any differences, describing their appointments as a responsibility entrusted to them by the president. He said the team must justify that confidence through effective coordination and commitment to the party’s campaign objectives.
Yari further disclosed that the campaign was expected to begin in Kaduna State, in the North-West, on the Saturday following the council’s meeting.
The consultations form part of the APC’s preparations for the 2027 election, as political parties work to strengthen their structures and engage influential institutions and community leaders ahead of the polls.
