Biu reportedly died on Sunday evening, October 11, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja, according to reports citing family sources.

His nephew, Adamu-Isa Gunda, confirmed the death to the News Agency of Nigeria, stating that arrangements were being made to transport his remains from Abuja to Chikaji, Sabon Gari, Zaria, Kaduna State, for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The late road safety chief, who held the traditional title of Jagaban Sabon Gari, is survived by his wife and five children.

Born in 1964 in Sabon Gari, Zaria, Biu devoted much of his professional life to the FRSC, which he joined in 1988. Over the years, he served in several positions before rising to become the head of the federal agency responsible for road safety management and traffic regulation.

He was appointed Acting Corps Marshal in July 2022 by former President Muhammadu Buhari following the retirement of his predecessor, Boboye Oyeyemi. Biu remained in the position until May 2024, when he was succeeded by Mohammed Shehu.

Before becoming Corps Marshal, Biu served as Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Finance and Accounts at the FRSC national headquarters in Abuja, where he was responsible for overseeing the agency’s financial administration.

His career progression included an appointment as Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Finance and Accounts in 2014 and promotion to Deputy Corps Marshal in 2016.

Beyond his public service career, Biu held a Master of Business Administration degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He was also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of National Accountants, with the professional designation FCNA.

His years in the FRSC placed him among the senior officials who helped oversee the agency’s operations, financial management and road safety programmes across the country.

Biu’s death marks the loss of a former head of one of Nigeria’s key public safety institutions. His service record and years of leadership remain part of the FRSC’s institutional history.
