According to the government, the bridge will not be completely shut throughout the exercise. Instead, sections will be closed in phases, with one lane kept open to allow motorists to continue their journeys while repairs are underway.
Motorists travelling through Lagos Island and surrounding areas have been advised to plan their movements ahead of time and consider alternative routes to reduce delays during the weekend repair period.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will deploy officers to the affected area to direct traffic and help manage vehicle movement throughout the exercise.
The state government also urged road users to remain patient, obey traffic regulations and cooperate with traffic officials to ensure the repairs proceed smoothly.
Motorists using Independence Bridge over the weekend should allow extra time for their journeys and follow instructions from traffic management officers at the site.
