The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, disclosed this on Monday in Abuja during a meeting with Germany’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Stefan Rössel. Bagudu described the two financing arrangements as important areas of engagement as Nigeria works to attract more investment, expand productive activities and improve the use of available resources.

He said the Federal Government’s economic reform programme had opened up opportunities for stronger international partnerships, adding that Nigeria was committed to converting such relationships into practical benefits for the economy.

The minister recalled that during the visit of former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to Nigeria, the country was implementing major economic reforms that required support from international partners, including Germany, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the European Union.

According to Bagudu, Germany’s involvement helped support Nigeria’s reform efforts, while bilateral engagements also created opportunities to advance cooperation in trade, investment and energy.

He further noted that discussions held during the Nigerian President’s visit to Germany had helped move talks on important energy agreements forward, highlighting the potential for broader collaboration between both countries.

Bagudu assured Rössel that the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning was prepared to work with the German government and relevant institutions to strengthen existing partnerships and identify additional areas of mutual interest.

In his remarks, Rössel described relations between Nigeria and Germany as longstanding and significant, reaffirming his country’s willingness to build on the progress already achieved.

The ambassador acknowledged the complex global economic and political environment facing both countries but expressed confidence that their established relationship could provide a strong foundation for addressing emerging challenges.

Also speaking at the meeting, the Minister of State for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, congratulated Rössel on his appointment and emphasised the importance of ensuring that agreements reached by both countries lead to measurable results.

The latest engagement reflects Nigeria’s broader efforts to attract foreign investment, strengthen industrial capacity and deepen economic cooperation with international partners.
