The Chairman of Fufore Local Government Area in Adamawa State, Dr Yahya Saidu, has died less than three months after assuming office, leaving the council and the wider state in mourning.
Saidu reportedly died in the early hours of Friday, October 9, 2026, while receiving medical attention at a hospital in Kaduna. His death was reported on Saturday, October 10, by multiple Nigerian news outlets. However, the circumstances surrounding his illness and death have not been publicly disclosed.
The Adamawa State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) expressed sadness over the loss in a condolence statement issued on Saturday.
The state ALGON chairman, Titus Obadiah, described Saidu as a committed public servant whose contributions to Fufore and Adamawa State would be remembered. He extended condolences to the deceased chairman’s family, friends, associates and constituents.
Obadiah also prayed for strength and comfort for those affected by the loss, describing the death as a painful moment for the local government and the state.
Saidu was sworn in as Fufore council chairman on July 15, 2026, under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). His tenure had lasted less than three months at the time of his death.
His passing has also drawn attention to the death of his predecessor, Shuaibu Babas, who died in office on April 23, 2025. Saidu is therefore the second chairman of Fufore Local Government Area reported to have died while serving in the position within approximately 18 months.
The repeated loss of council leaders has renewed attention on the leadership challenges facing the area, although no official statement has linked the two deaths beyond the fact that both chairmen died while in office.
As tributes continue, reports available at the time of publication did not yet clarify details about Saidu's burial arrangements or any formal succession process.
