The event marks a major step in the party’s preparations for the 2027 presidential election, with campaign activities expected to gather momentum ahead of the nationwide poll.
The inauguration comes as Nigeria’s electoral timetable has been adjusted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following changes to the legal framework governing elections.
Under the revised timetable, the presidential and National Assembly elections will take place on Saturday, January 16, 2027, while governorship and state Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2027.
The dates replace the earlier schedule, which had fixed February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections and March 6, 2027, for the governorship and state assembly polls.
INEC said the timetable was reviewed following the repeal of the Electoral Act 2022 and the enactment of the Electoral Act 2026, which introduced changes to statutory timelines for electoral and pre-election activities.
The APC had earlier announced the composition of its Presidential Campaign Council, with Tinubu serving as chairman and Vice President Kashim Shettima as vice chairman. Former Zamfara State Governor Abdulaziz Yari was named Director-General, while Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma was appointed secretary.
The council is expected to coordinate the party’s presidential campaign activities as it prepares for the 2027 election.
With the inauguration approaching and the election dates established, political parties are expected to intensify their organisational activities and preparations in the months ahead.
