The Rivers State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Seth following the alleged killing of his father at the Pipeline area of Rumukwurushi, Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred at the family’s residence and has left residents of the community concerned, while the police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death and the motive behind the alleged attack.
According to a neighbour who spoke to journalists, the deceased had previously confronted his son over what the family reportedly regarded as his consumption of a locally known alcoholic drink called “Ice.” The neighbour suggested that the disagreements may have contributed to tensions between the two, although there has been no official confirmation that this was the cause of the incident.
The neighbour said the suspect’s mother, who works as a teacher, was away at work when the incident allegedly happened. On returning home, she reportedly noticed that the house was in disarray and asked her son what had happened.
She was then said to have discovered her husband lying inside the house. Initially believing that he was asleep, she reportedly called for assistance after becoming concerned about his condition.
The neighbour further alleged that the suspect remained inside the house and later locked the room where his father was found. The situation reportedly attracted the attention of people in the area, leading vigilantes and police officers to intervene.
The suspect was subsequently arrested, with the police taking over the investigation.
Reports indicated that the deceased sustained multiple injuries during the alleged attack. However, details surrounding exactly what happened and what may have triggered the confrontation remain subject to police investigation.
The incident also attracted attention after a video circulated online showing the deceased’s grieving wife recounting what had happened to individuals believed to be members of a local vigilante group.
Confirming the arrest, Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Blessing Agabe, said the suspect was in custody and that investigators were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
The police spokesperson did not publicly confirm the alleged motive, reinforcing that the circumstances leading to the incident had yet to be established.
The case is expected to remain under investigation as authorities work to establish the sequence of events and determine what led to the death. Any further action against the suspect will depend on the outcome of the police investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
