The incident also left a police patrol vehicle and other property damaged by fire. In a statement issued through the command’s spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka, the police said the attackers did not take away any firearms or ammunition from the station.
Following the incident, Afolabi led an operational team comprising tactical units to the area. The police said officers searched the surrounding environment, restored calm and began intensified operations to identify and arrest those responsible.
The commissioner condemned the attack and assured residents that the command would deploy intelligence and operational resources to bring the perpetrators to justice.
A source quoted in the initial report alleged that the attackers had targeted the station’s armoury and took some police uniforms. These claims have not been independently confirmed, and the police command’s account specifically stated that no firearms or ammunition were stolen.
Governor Otti later visited the injured officers at the teaching hospital, where they were receiving treatment.
The attack has renewed concerns about the safety of police facilities and personnel. The Uratta Police Station was reportedly attacked previously in February 2021, when a police sergeant was killed and a patrol vehicle set ablaze.
Police authorities said security operations were continuing as efforts to apprehend those responsible intensified.
